A message of peace from the princess of peace.

Most parents, with the best interests at heart,
dictate what happens in the lives of their children. No, it shouldn't be so. All that's needed is guidance from a distance. In most homes today, choosing the career path of the child usually causes a thug of war between the child and the parents. Some parents use the "I know what's best for you" line to cover up. They end up attempting to live the life they would have preferred for themselves, through their children.
Choosing the career path for a child is never the best thing for the child.

As a parent, guardian or friend, you should advice the child, show him/her options, because there are a million and one professions to choose from.

I saw a picture once, it said, "The four career choices in Nigeria :

 1). A lawyer
 2). A doctor
 3). An engineer
4). A disgrace to the family.

The last part might have cracked you up. But seriously, why? All other professions are seen as irrelevant in most African homes. Even outside the homes, people around contribute to this ideology. It's a shame. If a child wants to be a footballer, let him. Every profession deserves respect. Late Muhammed Ali  Did not get to where he was by being a lawyer or a doctor, he was known for being a professional boxer out of many others. So also, the likes of Whitney Houston, Funke Akindele, Folarin Falana (falz), Dj Cuppy and so many others.

Being a Pilot, a farmer, an architect, a fashion designer, a musician, a model, or an actor, etc is a noble thing. I believe that every one deserves the chance to explore their passion and do what they love. Everybody's story is written differently. We should learn to encourage children, rather than destroy their confidence in themselves.
Please, I adhere you to embrace civilization, and do not be an obstacle in someone's life.
